Top 4 Photographs of 2025-A Year in Photography

My top four photographed in 2025

It was a good year for photography, and I was out and about with my camera. Choosing my top 4 photographs of 2025 was challenging, but here are the four I chose.

Chesterton Windmill

My first picture is of Chesterton Windmill. The sails had been removed from this iconic building for several years, and I was pleased that they returned in 2025. I photographed the process of placing the new sails, and later returned to take a picture of the windmill at night. This image was featured among the top pictures selected by West Midlands photographers.

Oxford Circus at Night

My second picture is of Oxford Circus at night. I had been walking around photographing the bright lights and was starting to get tired. I headed to Oxford Circus to get the Tube. The area was crowded with Christmas shoppers. I stood on the central reservation and took this picture. I was pleased when the scene was selected as Picture of the Week by #sharemondays2025 on BlueSky. The picture will now be featured in the ShareMondays book.

Balsall Heath Observation Project

From September to December, I spent time in Balsall Heath as part of a photographic course based at the Old Printworks. The course, organised by the PRISM Network, comprised lectures and photographic projects. A bonus was spending time with some of the nicest people I have met, who are also amazing photographers. My main project involved taking people around the streets of Balsall Heath as they retold what it was like living and working in the area. The picture is of one of several bridges that carry the train line over the area and are a feature of the streets of Balsall Heath.

Blue Hour in Stratford-upon-Avon

My final picture is the most recent. I won the first Wildflower Photographer of the Year competition, organised by the Eden Project in conjunction with Canary Wharf, and with the proceeds of the prize I bought myself a new camera. I took my Canon R6 II out for a walk around Stratford, and my final stop was the footbridge over the River Avon. The sunset was not the best, but the illuminated clouds reflected on the water competed with the bright lights of the town. Using a one-second long exposure, I captured a blue-hour scene and was also lucky to catch a swan passing through the frame.

I could have selected many more pictures, but these tell a nice story of the year.

Instagram top 9

In comparison, I have also included my top nine most-liked pictures from Instagram. This gives another view of my work and shows what others enjoyed. Another year finishes and a new one begins. I can’t wait to see what I get to photograph in 2026.
